Scholz: Albania, Northern Macedonia join EU, ahead of 20 years

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says Albania and Northern Macedonia deserve to be in the EU as they have been waiting 20 years. From the summit, he has said they should have a real opportunity to join the European Union after working to meet the conditions for entry into the bloc.

“QUtilists in the Western Balkans have been waiting for almost 20 years for opportunity to become members of the European Union,” told reporters before a meeting of EU and Western Balkan leaders.

It is very important that this becomes a reliable promise because the many efforts these countries have undertaken should ultimately lead to their accession”, he said.
