Charles Michel said Russia was using food supplies as a <x0-raditional” against the developing world, forcing people into poverty.
Russian envoy Vassily Nebenzia accused Michel of spreading lies.
Because of the war, food and cereals have been blocked in Ukraine's ports.
Ukraine is a major exporter of cooking oil as well as cereals such as corn and wheat. Russia also exports large quantities of cereals, as well as garbage. Lack of these exports has caused the price of alternatives to rise.
“Mr. Ambassador of the Russian Federation, let's be honest, the Kremlin is using food supplies as a missile against developing countries”, Michel said during the Security Council meeting in New York.
The dramatic consequences of Russia's war are spreading across the globe, and this is increasing food prices, driving people into poverty and destabilizing entire regions. ”
“Russia is the only one responsible for this food crisis. ”
He added that he had personally seen millions of tons of grain stuck in the Ukrainian port of Odessa due to a maritime blockade imported by Rusai.
Michel also accused Russia of stealing wheat and preventing sowing and harvesting crops in Ukraine because of its military activities there.
His comments caused Nebenzia to go outside. As he left, Mr. Michel addressed him directly: “You can leave the room, maybe it's easier not to listen to the truth”
Nebenzia told Reuters that she could not stay because of “the lies Charles Michel was distributing”.
At a separate meeting, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also said Russia was preventing Ukrainian wheat exports from leaving the country and accused Russian forces of destroying Ukraine's agricultural infrastructure. /abcnews.al/
