Sweden and Finland have applied to join the Western military alliance last month in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
But they have faced opposition from Turkey, which has accused them of supporting and sheltering Kurdish militants and other groups Ankara considers <x0-terrorist>”.
These are legitimate concerns. This is about terrorism, it's about arms exports”, Stoltenberg said at a joint press conference Sunday with Finnish President Saul Niinsto in Nagtal.
Stoltenberg has said Turkey is a key ally NATO because of its strategic location in the Black Sea between Europe and the Middle East, and he cited the support Ankara has given to Ukraine since Russia began its conquest on 24 February.
“We need to remember and understand that no ally of NATO has not suffered more terrorist attacks than Turkey”, the NATO secretary has declared.
