Mustafa: Salaries should be raised, 100 euros won't help citizens

Former Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa has a clear request for Kurti Government to emerge from the economic crisis. He says the executive must increase wages at the level of inflation rate in the country, as it stabilizes the purchasing power of any employee.

The sharing of 100 euros for public, private sector workers and students, Mustafa deems it counterproductive.

Such measures (100 euros) do not help citizens ease their problem with price hikes and the problem of low inflation and wages. If the government has the will and will to help citizens, wages must be increased. So there must be a government decision to raise wages, no matter when the salary law comes. If inflation is 11 or more per cent, even salaries should increase minimum inflation, as it stabilizes the power of purchasing each employee and then should be seen as helping these others who receive salaries, pensioners, marginalised groups, unemployed and others. These are the measures the government has been able to take, as if it has seen a 100m-euro stake in one day or pay the current of nearly 100m euros in the north, then citizens had to find a” solution, Mustafa points out.

Mustafa, inadequate, also considers the opposition initiative to withdraw savings from the Trust.

I am not the one who prefers touching the Pension Trust, as it is an investment of citizens for the future. They invest so that when they retire and they don't have salaries, they have a source of their own living... we can spend, but it's the citizens' tools that have saved themselves for the hardest day, so when they retire, because they can't work”, he adds.

Meanwhile, it appeals to respect the court's decision on expensive energy tariffs.

“As the price has increased is not a solution, but a violation, as human rights have been violated, as there are differentials that some pay higher prices and some lower prices. A decision has also been made, which has been arbitrary and in some form influenced by the government in ZRE. Then the same has acknowledged it, the Court has done very well to reject it, and has done very well, even the political party that has initiated this case in court”, Mustafa claims.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Kurti's claims of economic growth and employment over the past year, Mustafa calls them unrealistic.

The “government is not in line with promises Mr. Kurti has given even during the campaign and after, but also earlier in the opposition. Everything's left behind and there's no clear orientation before opinion and citizens what this government will do... Mr. Kurt is now praised for having had economic growth in 2021 for about 10 percent and that there were over 20,000 employees. As for economic growth, it is wrong to be compared to a year ago, since there was no growth in 2020 but a drop somewhere -5.7 percent in Kosovo. Hence, a single drop growth cannot be compared, but it is compared to a stable level. This is a fact that this growth is not real, and the second fact is inflation... for employees it's very disunitable, to find the number of 25, because if they were, it would mean that all generations that have entered the labour market have been employed, that's how many young people entered the labour market over the year, of 23-25. If so, we are in a good situation, but the reality is different, as people are leaving, moving to different countries. 200 thousand visa requirements are in front of various embassies, mainly Germany, Switzerland and other countries”, he says. /kp
