The discovery of the fate of more than 1600 people still missing is urgent. All loved ones no matter their ethnic affiliation deserve closure. That's why I visited the Documentation Center, met with the Missing Persons Source Centre and participated in the “Uaj and candles”, Lajcak writes in a Twitter post.
After the war ended in Kosovo in 1999, about 6,500 people have been missing. Since then, several exhumations have been carried out in mass cemeterys in Kosovo and Serbia, and so far about 70 per cent of the missing have been found.
Recent excavations were made last month at the mass cemetery in Kizevac, Raska, Serbia. Kosovo institutions have indicated that the mortar remains of nine Kosovars killed during the war have been found at this location.
According to authorities in Kosovo, there continue to be 1,639 people, mainly Albanians.
Today, on the second day of residence in Kosovo, Lajcak met the three leaders of opposition parties in the country. Initially he met with PDK chairman Lumir Abdixhiku, AAK Chairman Ramush Haradinaj, and PDK leader Memli Krasniqi.
He met with Prime Minister Albin Kurti on Monday, while after Kosovo, the Slovak diplomat will visit Serbia.
The main topic at these meetings was Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, and the opposition demanded that this process be completed with mutual recognition.
