Glauk Konjufca heads to The Hague: We're worried about what's going on out there.

Prior to his departure, he has told Kosovas that the country's institutions are concerned about what is happening there, while adding that the purpose of this visit is to show that they are following these processes more closely.

Glauk Konjufca is becoming the first senior state official to meet all former KLA leaders at The Hague's detention centre, including the two main figures of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci and Kadri Veselin.
Konjufca has criticised keeping them in custody for nearly two years until the trial is not under way.

The “are almost two years since they were taken, it's actually been two years since the indictment came out because in June 2020 we saw the indictment for the first time, and so far the court process has not begun. In terms of courts and processes where we're dealing with defendants, this could easily be called some kind of tendency of isolation, so they can't be with their families, so they can't be in their country and be cut off from their actual public activity. That's to my very disturbing opinion, even our institutions for this reason are worried about what's going on there”, Conjufca said.

With his visit to The Hague, Konjufca is aiming to show that Kosovo institutions are close to this process.

The purpose of this visit is also to show that our institutions are close to this process, are following it closely, and we have our criticism of how this court is functioning, there are many defects that have identified them all, so that the basic right that, in my opinion, is being violated in their process, is a right which guarantees even with the European human rights convention, it's also in the Constitutions of Kosovo, according to this convention which is most important to its European Union, and for this large democratic family, it is the right of individual when it's a trial process within the most reasonable time of time, we don't see the Supreme Court, where the Commission has said.

Konjufca has been asked whether all these criticisms will address even the institution of Specialised Chambers, but he has announced that there will be no other meetings during this visit except with KLA leaders.

Kosovo's Specialised Chambers also paid visits to Justice Minister Albulen Haxhiu, but refused to meet former President Hashim Thaci and former Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli.

Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi are staying in custody since November 2020, and the trial process against them has not yet begun.

Against them are charges of war crimes, while in their statements to the judges of the preliminary procedure they have been declared innocent.
