Former European Integration Minister Mimoza Ahmetaj has commented on the EU Summit for the Western Balkans held today in Brussels and expectations for visa liberalisation for Kosovo.
She said the only surprise could have taken place if in Bulgaria no vote of confidence in the government was held so that Bulgaria would change the veto it has used against opening negotiations for Albania and Northern Macedonia.
Ahmetaj said the European Union is at a crossroads, while adding that despite the EU's empty statements, concrete actions are needed which would integrate the Western Balkans into the EU.
“I saw a vote within the Dutch parliament that was pro-visa liberalisation for Kosovo, and as if the Dutch prime minister was no longer in that group blocking this, but for itself the fact that the issue is not put on the agenda at the European Council, that means that the consensus scheme and it is in vain which state is blocking”.
Even in the draft conclusions of today's summit, just as I have seen, the continuation of dialogue and reaching the agreement is called, but the issue of liberalisation is not to be mentioned. As soon as I saw it, it would be mentioned, and I have enough dilemma that it would be released in the final conclusions that are expected tonight eventually to appear”, Ahmetaj is expressed in Klan Kosova.
In turn, the former Minister for European Integration, has blamed the now opposition government, saying it has held Kosovo hostage throughout the visa liberalisation process, creating, according to her, artificial turquoise like the one for demarcation, she said.
And today, on the question of dialogue, we have not shown any great constructiveity and great will that, instead of fighting to go to Brussels and reach agreement with Serbia, but we have shown ourselves arrogant and have shown ourselves as the world revolves around us, and on the other hand Kosovo has been held hostage in these six years of undaunting, arrogance and endless ignorance”.
“We have lost the moment with visa liberalisation and has been political momentum. Today, Europe also links the dialogue with the visa liberalisation issue”, Ahmetaj has said, Clankosova.tv reports.
In the end, she also criticised President Vjosa Osmani's presentation, where she said that visa liberalisation is not appropriate in Brussels.
To talk about liberalisation, at a time when Kosovo has what more to ask from Brussels, I think it shows a lot about the level of Vjosa Osmani”, Ahmetaj said.
