June 5th was designated World Environment Day in 1972 by the UN General Assembly. The date was chosen because it coincides with the opening day of the United Nations Conference on Environment, held in 1972 in Stockholm, under the leadership of the United Nations Environment Programme.
The purpose of this event is to promote activities and actions to achieve positive changes in environmental protection. This day is usually conveyed to a particular theme.
In the past, the topics of this event have been the care of land and water, the protection of ozone layer, climate change, and sustainable development with the focus of human health.
