A local government official told the BBC that the death toll will likely increase by more than 250.
The quake that struck the province of Pacta is about 40 miles [44 km] from the southeastern city of Kest.
The shocks were felt in Pakistan and India, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the BBC writes.
