Chancellor Scholz next week visits Kosovo

This visit begins with Serbia on June 10th, and where he will visit Kosovo within the day.

The first stop in Olaf Scholz's two-day Balkan tour will be Kosovo and Serbia on 10 June. According to German Chancellor Wolfgang Bichner's spokesman, among other things a visit is planned to German KFOR troops in Kosovo.

Later, Scholz will go to Thessaloniki at the invitation of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, where he will join representatives of regional initiative countries “The Southeast European Co-operation Process (SEECP)”.

The next day, on June 11th, the German Chancellor goes to northern Macedonia and then to Bulgaria.

According to a statement by the Chancellor's office, the focus of Olaf Schelz's trips will be the prospect of the EU and Western Balkan countries, as well as Germany's contribution to improving regional co-operation and overcoming bilateral blockades. In addition, the central topic will be the further joint response to the fight against Russian aggression against Ukraine.

As reported on the official page of the German Chancellor's office, more details about the travel programme will be made known in the coming days.

Chancellor Scholz's visit to the region next week was confirmed by the DW in Serbian.

The main topics to be discussed are: The EU perspective, Germany's contribution to overcoming bilateral blockades and fighting in Ukraine.
