Companies, mainly British, offer homeowners various construction services in and usually require direct cash payment, writes dpa.de. Mainly, there are quick and cheap executions of stone and gardenwork, such as the building of terraces or the creation of trails in the courtyards.
According to customs findings, some of the companies employ illegal workers and pay no taxes or contributions to them.
Customs officers have handed over to the immigration authorities five illegal workers. Now they are threatened with expulsion from Germany and criminal proceedings for illegal residence in Germany.
