Riterri's 5.9-magnitude earthquake is the strongest blow Afghanistan has experienced over decades.
The humanitarian disaster comes at a difficult time for the country dominated by Taliban, currently in the range of a hunger and economic crisis.
Most of the deaths were in the Pact province, in the Giyan, Nica, Barmal and Ziro district, according to the State Ministry for Disaster Management.
The number of victims is expected to increase as research missions continue, CNN reports.
The Taliban held an urgent meeting to organise transportation security for the injured and material assistance for victims and their families.
