He saw that the situation in Donbas was now “very difficult”.
The full power of the Russian army, whatever's left of it, is in the offensive there. Lima, Pupina, Severodonnetsk, Slaviansk invaders want to destroy everything there”, the president said.
He said his army was resisting, but “would take time and much more effort from our people to overcome their advantage in the amount of equipment and weapons”.
He also requested other weapons, such as rocket launchers and tanks, to be sent from the West. Russia is trying to take full control of the two provinces of Donbas, Donnetsk and Luhansk, and block Ukrainian forces into a pocket on the main Eastern front.
They occupied three cities in Donetsk on Tuesday, according to regional Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko. Ukraine's military said it had fired nine Russian attacks on Donbas, but that at least 14 civilians were killed.
