In a speech given at the European Parliament, he suggested that Ukraine become part of a “European parallel community while awaiting the EU's decision.
This said Marcron would allow non-EU member states to become part of security architecture on other roads, the BBC reports.
Ukraine launched the application process to enter the EU in February this year, four days after Russia's invasion.
“We all know that the process of membership takes several years, perhaps decades”, Macro said on Monday.
“This is the truth or we will have to lower standards for membership”, the French president added.
Macron said that the <x0 European parallel community” should be considered, instead of suspending strict criteria for Ukraine to become part of the EU.
This structure can become part of countries that are geographically in Europe and share the same values.
His comment came after EC President Ursula von der Layen suggested that the initial opinion on Ukraine's application will be published in June.
