Danish officials confirmed that the release of this country's airspace was registered Friday evening in eastern Bornholm Island. After that, the same plane flew to Sweden. Russia's “Ambassador has been called for this new violation of air space”, Danish Foreign Minister Pripe Kofod, who named the event “unacceptable and extremely disturbing in the context of Russian aggression in Ukraine”, wrote on Twitter.
The Swedish Foreign Ministry confirmed that the same would happen to Moscow's envoy in Stockholm.
There are procedures defined for such cases”, noted in her statement. Denmark is a member of NATO, while Sweden is involved in debates on whether it should take the step of joining the world's largest military alliance.
Finland, meanwhile, is expected to decide on 12 May about its NATO membership application. According to the local newspaper Iltalelet, the decision should be taken two steps: First Finnish President Saul Niinsto, announces he has given the go-ahead, and parliament must give its OK.
