The rocket was launched by the Barents Sea and fired at the White Sea target, that minister said. A video published by Russian authorities shows the missile being launched from a ship into the sky on a rampage.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the Zircon missile is part of the new generation weapons system.

Hypersonic missiles travel nine times faster than voice speed, and Russia has already conducted Zircon tests before, launching the missile from warship and submarines.

The Russian Army has suffered major troop and equipment losses during the invasion of Ukraine, which began on 24 February. But Moscow continues to test weapons in an effort to display its missile power.

Last month, Russia tested the new Interccivilary missile Sarmat, which could carry ten or more nuclear warheads. / REL
