Pope Franescu reiterated today the call for the creation of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians from the Ukrainian city of Marioupolis, which, as he said, “was bombed and viciously destroyed”.
My “My thoughts are with the Ukrainian city of Marioupolis, the city of Maria, bombed and brutally destroyed. I repeat the call for the opening of secured humanitarian corridors”, the pope said during Sunday's prayer at St Peter's Square in the Vatican.
From Marioupolis, who was nearly completely destroyed after weeks of siege, the first group of civilians emerged from the Azovstal steel factory, the last Ukrainian resistance bastion in that city.
According to Ukrainian battalion Azov, about 20 civilians were evacuated, which is the first successful evacuation after previous unsuccessful efforts.
Speaking of the war in Ukraine, the Pope condemned the dark subx0-region of humanity”.
Let's not give up the logic of violence, the perverted weapons anchor”, the pope said.
