According to him, containers contain 4.5 million tons of grain that could not be transported because sea crossings are unsafe or busy. He stressed that some of the passages were mined and that some ports were not accessible.
Ukraine is also one of the largest corn producers in the world. UN data indicates that 30 million tons of corn and 25 million tons of wheat have been planted in this country this year.
Many North African countries depend on these Ukrainian cultures. Frick noted that the world needs them urgently.
WFP noted that since the beginning of Russian aggression, they have provided food for 2.5 million tons of Ukrainians, despite the fact that this country still has an abundance of crops. Additionally, food was sent to Moldova.
Frick underlined that transportation of food intended for export from Ukraine is necessary. He stressed that most of the world will be affected if this does not happen.
“Uria should not be used as weapons, neither from a military point of view nor from an economic standpoint, he added.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also warned that there is a possibility that hunger will erupt worldwide, reports Guardian.
