Professor and analyst Blerim Latifi, for dinners spread through European top centres, says the EU's commitment to the Balkans has been reduced to gastronomic diplomacy.
He writes:
Days ago in Berlin a joint dinner was organised by Kosovo Prime Minister and the president of Serbia. Tomorrow Borell is host to another joint dinner of Western Balkan leaders in Brussels.
The entire European Union's commitment to the Balkans has been reduced to gastronomic diplomacy.
This is the effort that through the shared taste of high-quality foods, political taste for Balkan political chiefs changes. Of course, this is a futile and ridiculous effort, from which only single beneficiaries will be the owners of restaurants where these dinners are made.
Who knows the history of the Balkans and its political mentality well, knows that only voldozer diplomacy performs here. Others are part of the catalogue of vanity.
