Kosovo will apply for membership in the Council of Europe. Sources from the Kosovo Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora have confirmed to Radio Free Europe that the app is available and that the application will take place soon, certainly Thursday.

The possibility of Kosovo's application for membership in the Council of Europe has mentioned Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq in Brussels on Wednesday, adding that with this, Kosovo is breaking the Brussels and Washington Agreement.

Before the informal dinner organised by EU Diplomacy Chief Josep Borrell on Wednesday, May 11th, Vuciq said that “is clear that some people are working to destabilise the entire region and Serbia”.

The Council of Europe is an international human rights organisation, democracy and rule of law in Europe, headquartered in Strasbourg.

The Council of Europe advocates freedom of expression and media, equality and protection of minorities. The Council has launched campaigns on issues such as child protection and Roma rights, the largest minority in Europe. He has also developed campaigns for protection from online hate speech.

The Council of Europe helps member states fight corruption and terrorism and undertake needed judicial reforms.

Russia has recently been excluded from this organisation.

The possibility of Kosovo's accession to the Council of Europe opened with Russia's expulsion from this organisation.

In Russia's absence, two-thirds of its member states recognise Kosovo's independence. Because decisions are made in majority, Kosovo's accession is real. / REL
