Kosovo aims to install batteries for energy accumulate

In the next three years, Kosovo aims to implement a major energy accuser project. Among the biggest in Europe. Finalisation of the “Compact” agreement, worth $226.7m, will help Kosovo independence of the country's energy system. Economy Minister Artane Rizvanolli has told of the project that will [...]
Economy Minister Artane Rizvanolli has told of the project to be funded by the American Corporation of Millennium Challenges in Washington.
This largest project of this kind in Europe will be financed by Millennial Challenge Corporation funds. Minister Rizvanolli, who has led the team to negotiations in the MCC, shows that the project will greatly help Kosovo balance energy.
The largest “Investation will take place in battery accumulate capacity at 170 MW or 340 reserves MW, which is a first project in the region and among the first in European countries”, she told RTK.
Other project components have to do with the development of the labor force so that they are willing to work in the energy sector.
The project will be funded by $202m by the US government, while 2 million are designed to attract investors to the sector.
Regarding when work on the ground will begin to implement this project, the minister has said the agreement must first pass some procedures. After approval and signing by the MCC, it must be ratified in September in the Assembly. Then, there will be an 18-month period during which the project will be designed, while specifically until the battery purchase we talk about 2025/2650, Rizvanolli added.
To develop and implement the project, Rizvanelli says a special organisation will be established.
During that time, analysis will be made, design of the project and places where batteries will be established.
The “is a relatively new field, but it has built capacity, some capacities are built in London, some in Germany. So far there have been smaller projects, while this year batteries in Europe are seen as a very important way to accumulate”, it has underlined.
The first function of this project will be to balance the energy system at the moment when demand for energy supply will increase.
In addition, we are talking about acumulation so that energy can be accumulated when it is produced, if it is not necessary when it is produced, but will then be used at a later time when it is the highest”, the minister said. According to her, expanding renewable projects will take place parallel to building batteries.
“According to the models the experts have made, even those of the MCC and those of the strategy, these reserves are sufficient for a 10-15-year period. However, during the design of the project, more detailed assessments will be made even if we see the need for additional capacity being considered”, Rizvanolli concluded.
The finalised agreement in Washington last weekend is the largest since Kosovo has become part of funding projects by the MCC. The first deal was on Thursdays program.
