Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan has said that his country is not in favour of Finland and Sweden joining NATO - implying that Turkey can use its status as a member of the alliance to veto the two countries, writes The Independent, Pryscopic conveys.
“We are following developments carefully towards Finland and Sweden, but we are not of a favourable opinion”, he told Reporter.
The Turkish leader explained his opposition by citing the alleged support of Sweden and other Scandinavian countries for Kurdish militants and others Turkey calls terrorists.
He also accused Greece, NATO allies, of using the alliance against Turkey, saying Turkey does not want to repeat that mistake. / P ERISCOPI/
