Former President Hashim Thaci's defence team lawyer, Pierre Richard Prosper, is convinced that his client will be acquitted.
Prosper in Rubikon declared that expanding the indictment that took place in April this year does not change the subject.
We've looked at this and from our perspective, the subject doesn't change, we trust the evidence we possess, we believe that when judgment actually develops and the truth comes to light that Thaci and others, I can talk about Thaci, will be declared innocent. The prosecution is adding things, trying to strengthen the indictment, but we believe we are in a good position” said Prosper.
In addition, Prosper said the Specialised Prosecutor's Office is not yet ready, so he is adding new accusations trying to strengthen the subject, until he added he does not expect the indictment against Thaci and others to be expanded again by the prosecution.
I don't expect any new charges, and if the prosecution feels it needs to continue to modify the charges then this subject shouldn't be here. I said this in court last year at one of the status conferences, I asked a fundamental question: Why are we here if the prosecution isn't ready? If the prosecution had been ready, we would have progressed and were in position to go to trial and that's a fundamental problem. We have individuals being held for two years without seeing a day in court, that's not fair. What we want is the opportunity to continue, we want the opportunity for truth to be exposed, and when truth comes out, we will see that this case should not be in this court and that Mr. Thaci is innocent and will be acquitted on these charges” said Prosper.
Former president Thaci's lawyer says the defence team faces challenges at every step of the process.
Every day that it passes, the belief that this is an efficient process disappears, because we have obstacles at every step, we don't get all the information we need, the excusing information doesn't reveal and there's a lot of delays when we're told the prosecution was ready. So we, as you can imagine, are frustrated by this process and believe that it is important for people to start seeing what's going on here, because from our point of view, this has started to lose credibility” declared Prosper.
