US Ambassador to NATO: Of course We Will Support Kosovo for Membership

Smith has also reiterated the United States' stance on Kosovo membership in the Partnership programme [...]
Smith has also reiterated the United States' stance on Kosovo membership in NATO's Partnership for Peace programme.
The United States supports Kosovo's integration into European or Euro-Atlantic organisations and institutions. We believe that countries should have the right to determine their union and membership. We would certainly support Kosovo's movement towards the Partnership for Peace programme”, Smith said, commemorating that the decision for membership of any country on this programme, as in NATO itself, deals with consensus of 30 member states.
There is no qualified majority vote. Here all decisions are made between us, 30 members. That's the term we use, where all 30 states have to agree to it. So this will be a decision that will have to be taken by consensus if Kosovo decides to try to move towards Partnership for Peace”.
The Kosovo government has said it has only formed a working group for Partnership for Peace membership.
Partnership for Peace is a programme of NATO, aimed at building confidence between NATO member states and other states in Europe.
