Ambassador Havenier in an interview for Serbian mediamen Kossev argued his country strongly supports this process and will work with its partners to improve it.
Even though he says everything depends on Kosovo's prime minister and Serbia's president, Havenier believes such an agreement can be reached during the current mandate of Kosovo Prime Minister and Serbia's president, Reporter.net broadcasts.
There are difficult issues that have political costs. Both sides will have to engage actively and creatively and with an emergency set to achieve this”, the ambassador concluded.
Hovenier has also spoken of the situation in northern Kosovo, saying that much has changed since the last visit to Mitrovica in 2007, when he worked on the Martti Ahtisaari team.
He commented on the recent attacks in the direction of the Kosovo Police in the north, saying that the KP had assured him that it is “handling this issue very seriously”.
Hovenier visited northern Mitrovica for the first time this week since his appointment as US ambassador to Kosovo.
