More than 9,000 war crimes cases are being investigated in Ukraine

Ukraine's General Prosecutor, Iryna Venedicova, said her office is opening new cases of alleged war crimes by Russian forces, with a total of 9,158 criminal cases.

“We have already identified specific war criminals,” said Iryna Venice.

There are 15 people in the Kiev region, for example, 10 of them in Bucha. We're asking them for torture, rape and robbery. ”

Ukrainian prosecutors appointed ten Russian soldiers last week as suspects in a series of crimes in Bucha.

Regarding the identification of the victims in Butca, Venice said some bodies cannot be identified and DNA samples collected.

Unfortunately, we have grounds to open every day new cases: deaths of civilians, bombings, expulsion of our citizens and children into occupied territories and the territory of the aggressor state”, she said.

She said the cases covered Kiev, Chernihiv and Sumy regions. Venice added that Ukraine was receiving international assistance in its investigations.

We now have a team of French experts and experts from Slovakia. We expect experts from Lithuania next Tuesday,” she said.
