Deputy Health Minister Dafina Geja said that Kosovo's tobacco-drinking privilege remains high, with about 28%-30% of the adult population consuming tobacco.
According to the figures the Ministry possesses, men are the biggest consumers of this product, but unfortunately, have been observed increasing consumption among female genders, including pregnancy.
Some years later, we see a significant decline in discipline for implementation of the Tobacco Control Law, which despite the violations that are committed has brought a new educational culture to our society, producing effects on reducing consumption among young people, as shown by the comprehensive investigation of smoking into young GYTS II, who found that in the midst of youth aged 13-15, tobacco consumption from 6.7% to pre-law entry had dropped to 4.4% in 2016, while passive smoking was halved, from 84% to 43%. Kosovo's smoking preference still remains high, with about 28%-30% of the adult tobacco-eating population, where men are the biggest users of this product, but unfortunately noticed increased consumption among the female gender, including pregnant”, she said among other things.
Arben Lila-Representative of the organisation KDC stressed the importance of implementing the Law on Tobacco Control and stressed that it must be impossible for the tobacco industry to influence institutions and interfere with tobacco control policies, as it has in some of the past governments, pushing the approval of the Guide for combined health remarks.
He also said that more activities should be organised, such as putting photos in tobacco packages, which he said have shown a very good result in quitting.
Oleksandri Martynenko, from the OBS office, Pristina, said that on the occasion of this day's marking, we should inform the population that, according to him, the damage from smoking goes beyond smoking smoke.
He said smoking causes cancer, and that every second person smokers is likely to die from cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
From beginning to end from packing, transportation, consumption - vital tobacco cycle pollutes, damages and eventually kills us and our planet”, he said.
