She has been forced to leave Ukraine because of the war. Makey is located in Pristina, and AGK will see to it's continued work by Kosovo.
For weeks, many local and international public institutions have made all necessary preparations to host journalists from Ukraine.
Upon arriving at the airport, Makey said that today it is dangerous to be a journalist in Ukraine, citing the fact that Russian army forces have killed 21 journalists in Ukraine so far.
I thank you very much for allowing me to come to Kosovo. This program allows me to remain in the journalist's profession. I am deeply moved by how total strangers want to help us. I believe our co-operation and solidarity by other journalists is an important step towards peace”, she added.
“Gasers in Residence in Kosovo” is the programme initiated by the European Centre for Press Freedom and Media (ECPMF) and the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), financed and supported by the Office of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspore and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The programme is being implemented by the Kosovo Journalists' Association with the support of two journalists' unions in Ukraine. This programme offers monthly wages, accommodation, working conditions, language and integration, as well as psycho-social assistance as necessary.
Mrs. Makey has been hosted at the airport by Xhemajl Rex0>, butterfly Kusari (ECPMF), as well as representatives of Kosovo MPB and Police.
