News that the French company “Daso Avieche” is in negotiations to sell to Serbia 12 planes has received great public attention in Serbia on Tuesday. If an agreement on advancing the Serbian Army is reached, according to experts, would be the most serious arms procurement agreement in Serbia's history.
French newspaper “La Tribune” has reported that the Government of Serbia is in negotiations with the French company for the purchase of up to 12 new jets “Rafale”.
According to the paper, the French company has no doubts that the agreement will be reached, following President Aleksandar Vuciq's victory in Sunday's elections. The bids had been submitted to the Serbian government since early March.
Such agreements in the region have already been completed. Croatia had purchased planes from France earlier and had paid 1.1 billion euros. It was the second country after Greece.
Vucinqi had warned on TV Prva last year that she likes the supply of such planes. And Defence Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic, in an interview for RTS in December had said aircraft equipment from France is being considered.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Vuchy had talked on March 7th. According to official reports, the two presidents discussed the war in Ukraine and interstate economic co-operation. However, there had been reports of aircraft purchases.
Serbia's state so far was supplied with MiG-29 aircraft from Russia and Belarus. “Anyway, since their projected life expectancy is later until 2035, Serbia would have to think of their descendants”, it said of “Euroneten Serbia”, Petar Vojinovic, editor-in-chief of the portal “Tango Six”.
He has added that these purchases have been planned for several years.
“Adapting time, it is necessary to have multifunctional combat aircraft”, he said.
It is expected that the deal will cost Serbia more than one billion euros.
This would be the most expensive purchase and most serious procurement of weapons for Serbia in its history”, it has concluded.
“Rafaret” are multifunctional planes that are used as fighter planes, bombers and to carry out stakes in various air, land, or sea sections. /Time/
