Senators during their stay in Pristina will meet with State Chief Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti. In meetings with state leaders, the three senators will be accompanied by US Ambassador to Pristina Jeffrey Havenier.
This American delegation's visit to the Western Balkan region has been prompted by developments in Ukraine, and the war Vladimir Putin started there.
During all this time since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, there have been warnings that the region may be Putin's goal of destabilising, and that has alarmed the West.
Senator Murphy himself had confirmed this in announcing the visit to Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia this week, saying Putin could target creating any problems in any fragile region such as the Western Balkans.
Until Russia continues to lose in Ukraine, they will try to create problems in the fragile nearby regions. I am in Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia this week with Senator Shaeen and Senator Thom Tills to strengthen US ties with the Balkans in the face of foreign efforts to undermine peace”, Murphy had warned.
The three senators have stayed in Belgrade on Tuesday, where they met with the heads of state there, Vucicin and Brnabyqi. Today they are staying in Sarajevo and have held meetings with Bosnia and Herzegovina's presidential train.
Senator Murphy has shown his interest in the region, namely Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Senator Ron Johnson and I had visited Pristina and Belgrade in the fall of 2019. From Pristina, the two senators had demanded that Kosovo and Serbia make sacrifices for the final agreement. Murphy had also stayed in Kosovo in 2014 and had met Atifete Jahjaga for being president of the Republic. /Express/
As Russia continues to lose in Ukraine, they will look to make trouble in tomorrow fragie regions.
I'm in Serbia, Kosovo, and Bosnia this week with @SenatorShaheen and @SenThomTilis to shelter the U.S. These are to the Balkans in the face of foreign forces to undermine peace.
