Ukraine is preparing for the expected escalation of Russian attacks on the Donbas region east of the country.
As they try to adapt to that challenging new terrain, the United States is increasing its commitment to assist with sending an additional arms and ammunition worth 800 million dollars into a package that includes additional Mi-17 helicopters, hotballs, several hundred Switchblade drones, artillery radar systems and protective equipment to protect against possible chemical attacks.
But achieving this assistance in the hands of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is now facing a time race.
New satellite images have seized a growing number of Russian troops and armoured vehicles headed to eastern Ukraine where Russia has far more advantages than in its previous attack on northern Ukraine and Kiev capital, while Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to show that he will use every means needed to fulfill his ambitions to gain control of that region.
The new round of artillery and ammunition takes the total American military aid to Ukraine to $3.2 billion since the Biden administration took office.
The US effort was strengthened on Wednesday by the European Union's announcement of additional US military support of $544m for Ukraine, including military and personal defence equipment, fuel and the first aid kit, which brings its total assistance to $1.63 billion.
