Just a few days earlier, Khan had succeeded in blocking a no-confidence vote against him, broadcasting the Express newspaper. The previous blocking of such a process was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, reports Al Jazeera.
69-year-old Khan took power in 2018 with the help of the military, but recently he lost the majority, after his political allies emerged from the government coalition.
Criticisms against him were due to failure in the revival of the economy, plagued by the pandemic COVID-19, as well as in fighting corruption.
Khan is also known for his closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He has recently been publicly praised by Moscow for failing to heed the US, and furthermore, he had paid an official visit to Russia at the beginning of the invasion in Ukraine.
Khan, during this visit, was hosted by Vladimir Putin.
