Munter: Dialogue makes it difficult for Kosovars to choose Kurti, he has top priority

Former US Ambassador to Belgrade Cameron Munter, in an interview for the Voice of America, the Serbian language edition, has talked about negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia. Asked when such a problem is expected to be resolved, Munter has said the current US administration does not top the list, on [...]
I don't see it as a major issue, as in the past years, in the way President Trump used it in an effort to win home victory by bringing Thaci and Vucinqiqi to the White House. I don't think the current administration wants such a theater, because, in my opinion it was”, Munter said about Voice of America, broadcast Express.
The American diplomat says one of the serious factors of the dialogue process is the fact that Kosovars have chosen for prime minister, Albin Kurtin, who negotiations with Serbia is not a top priority.
“One of the serious factors is that Kosovo citizens have based on elections, Albin Kurtin, who does not rank negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia. It initially underlines employment, the fight against corruption, the introduction of Kosovo into the European world and the adoption of European behavioral models”, Munter has said.
“It uses the motto that despite the fact that Serbia does not want to help, it should not be concerned about that. I wouldn't know to what extent such a thing is constructive, but it makes it difficult to meet between the two leaders who have to make painful concessions”, has added further Munter.
He further says that Donfried's position (American diplomat who visited Kosovo on Monday and Tuesday) that he expects dialogue to be based on mutual recognition, is not attractive to Alexander Vucic, but is certainly for Albin Kurti.
“So, I would say that dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is not near any step forward. And maybe in the first place there will be initiatives from other areas of defence, geopolitical, economic”, the former American ambassador.
Asked whether a solution can be expected for Kosovo and Serbia within five years, Munter has said he will not talk about deadlines, since the current leadership in Kosovo has expressed any urgency to this issue, as earlier leaders have done. The same is true of the Serb side.
The same thing has been present in Serbia. This isn't the case on any side at this time and I couldn't predict any timeline”, Munter has posted.
