Lajcak has announced that the chief negotiators from Kosovo and Serbia will meet tomorrow.
The “Experts from Kosovo and Serbia today have met for the last time in the GP for license plates before the deadline on 21 April. By their jobs they prepared tomorrow the discussions of the chief negotiators. Now it is up to the chief negotiators to find an agreement on the road before”, he has made it known through a Twitter status.
On September 20th 2021, the Government of Kosovo had imposed reciprocity measures for Serbian license plates, which meant that once it entered Kosovo's territory, cars with Serbian license plates were to receive test plates. The idea was that these pro-profit plates were valid for 60 days and cost five euros.
Until then, Kosovo citizens, who had RKS (Republishment of Kosovo) license plates over a decade, when they entered Serbia's territory, paid about five euros for pro-profit plates, worth 60 days.
This then sparked protests and blockades by local Serbs, who last September blocked roads leading to two border crossings linking Kosovo and Serbia, Jarinje and Brnjak.
On September 30th, with EU mediation, Kosovo and Serbia reached a temporary agreement on plates. But, working groups from Kosovo and Serbia, with the European Union's mediation, have deadlines until April 21st to reach a final agreement.
Today, experts from Kosovo and Serbia met for the last time in the WG on license shares the office on 21 April. With their work, they prepped the designs of Chief Negotiators tomorrow. It's now up to the Chief Negotiators to find a relationship on the way forward.
