Who initiated and dedicated it to Kosovo: How the case of Astrit Dehar in Switzerland had ended

It has been more than five years since Astrit Dehari has passed away at the Prizren detention centre. Astrit Dehari was arrested along with 5 Vetevendosje activists, as suspected of terrorist attacks on the Kosovo Assembly. Dehar had been sent to the detention centre in Prizren, where he stayed until November 5th [...]

After Dehar's death, the Kosovo autopsy report had been finalised. From this report, it resulted in his death as a result of mechanical asphyxibility (the closing or blocking of the upper airways) as a result of self - inflicted injuries associated with outside bloodshed. However, such a statement the parents of the former Vetevendosje activist did not believe it, calling it unconcrete and demanding international investigations into the case.

In December 2016, Kosovo Assembly had adopted a resolution which opened the possibility of an independent international investigation into the causes of Astri's death. The Assembly then recommended the US or any European Union country where the expertise could be made.

Astrit Dehar's parents, through their lawyer, had addressed then-Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, asking him under his competencies force the Ministry of Justice to engage the Swiss Law Medicine University Centre The Hospital Centre Universithetaire Vaudois (CHUV) for independent investigations.

A few days later, the Government had decided to Split 50,000 euros, in order for Vetevendosje activist expertise to be carried out abroad as the family demanded.

According to former Minister Abelard Tahiri, the Justice Ministry had carried out all the obligations it owes for this case and remained in the hands of the prosecution to further the procedures, as his intervention in the issue was mixed in justice affairs.

And we as the Government and as the Minister what we've done so far is that we've shared the tools, 50 thousand euros, which have gone to the State Prosecutor, and I've offered the whole logistical side that the Ministry of Justice has, through which we can help in this case, whether through the Department for International Co-operation, or through other departments, to contact with the international think tank, Tahiri said.

The country's sub-commissions have been to be a state of the EU or in the US, the family requirement is to be made in Switzerland, now normally that the Prosecution decides, they decide exactly where it should be, which institute they appoint. We cannot impose because the prosecution organ is an independent body”, former minister Tahiri stressed.

The state had met the request of the Dehar family, which in February 2017, decided that expertise over their son's death to carry out the University Law Medicine Centre in Switzerland.

“Yes, we have sent all relevant information on the criminal procedure and medical records to the Swiss authorities to proceed to the professional institution for the necessary review”, chief prosecutor Alexander Lumezi had announced.

In 2019 the expert at the Lozanne Institute of Legal Medicine, Switzerland, for Astrit Deharit had written a 58-page reportWhere no possible murder of Astrit Dehar was rejected.

The report on the expertise of the Swiss Institute of Legal Medicine in Lozanne for the Astrit Deharit case, notes:

  1. As stated in our expertise El180001, we have doubts related to the circumstances of Mr. DEHARY Astri. Actually, Mr. DEHARRI Astrit through certain means by legal doctors seems a little real, and intervention of a third person in the fatal process should be taken into account.
  2. DNA analyses conducted in our labs have enabled a DNA profile on the sample described by Kosovo experts, as reportedly containing little or very little DNA.
  3. From what was said, we appreciate that a new investigation is necessary to clarify Mr. DEHARY Astri. Our teams and our labs are available to investigators in charge of the case.

Now, when it's been almost six years since Asttri Dehar's death, Kosovo Special Prosecution has accepted report from Swiss Law Medicine InstituteSo what has been said that DNA tests, from objects that have been in contact with the deceased, have not shown DNA profiles other than that of the deceased.

After the second report, numerous public reactions arose, where the gisiti headed towards Vetevendosje, who had consistently accused the powers then of being responsible for the murder of Dehar. That's what they say today. And Minister Albulen Haxhiu attacked the prosecutor for having been manipulating with evidence, and the latter returned the same, telling him he is deinforcing the public himself./ P ERISCOPI/
