The mother of actor Chris Rock, Rose Rock, has reacted for the first time after the incident in which his son was involved at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony.
She said she initially thought the incident had been insisted as she watched it broadcast from her house, but realized it was true when Smith started screaming.
When he hit Chris, he hit us all. He really hit me. Because when you hurt my kid, you hurt me. No one heard his speech. Nobody was able to be attentive at this moment, because everyone was sitting there like, “What happened?”, she said.
Smith has since resigned from the Film Arts and Sciences Academy, which hosts the “Oscars” awards.
The academy also prevented the actor from participating in its events for the next ten years, and Academy President David Rubin and CEO Daa Hudson apologised to Rock in a statement.
