Golob, whose party was founded in January, has won 34.5 per cent of the vote in the April 24th elections, compared to Jansha's party, which has won 23.5 per cent of the vote, according to the State Election Commission, which has counted 98 per cent of the vote.
Only three other parties -- the conservative one, New Slovenia, the Social Democrats and the left, Levica -- have received more than 4 per cent of the minimum vote needed to enter parliament.
Golob is expected to create a majority with the Social Democrats and become the new state prime minister.
Jansha, an fan of former US President Donald Trump, has been charged by the opposition during the election campaign by trying to harm democratic institutions and media freedom.
Gorob, 55-year-old charismatic engineer, has pledged in his victory speech that the results “will enable us to restore freedom to the state”.
Since Jansha has regained power in 2020, thousands of Slovenians have regularly protested on the streets, saying he has used the coronary pandemic to limit the freedoms of residents and the media. / REL
