Captain Alexander Chirva has died after the wounds sustained in fighting against Ukrainian troops, said Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozheyev.
Chirva was commander of the large ship Caesar Kunikov, which is part of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea.
Razvozhayev gave no more details about the circumstances of death, but some other reports said he was injured on 24 March. However, it remains unclear whether his death came from this incident.
