In a Twitter post, the US says Serbian commanders who led the genocide of Bosnian civilians are war criminals and are not heroes from any perspective.
The United States will never forget the Srebrenica genocide committed by elements of the Republika Srpska Army under the command of Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic. Mladic and Karadzic are war criminals, not heroes. No denial, no mural or monument that could change this” has written the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The embassy alludeed to Mladic's wall that was painted on the facade of a building in Belgrade, a month after The Hague tribunal confirmed its eternal sentence on June 8th. Some activists in Belgrade had protested to remove the wall, but Serbian police had arrested one of them who threw eggs towards the wall, arguing that they are obliged to maintain order and tranquillity. Activists also had to deal with rightists who cheered in support of the war criminal.
But the figure of war criminals in Serbia is not honoured only by nationalist citizens. Serbian ministers have often been seen honoring and praising other war criminals. Finally, Defence Minister Aleksandar had been homazhe before a bust set up in Belgrade by “Cassap of the Balkans”, Slobodan Milosevic.
In addition to Ratko Mladic's mural, two more murals appeared in downtown Belgrade -- that of the secular commander of World War II, Draza Mihajloviq and of the Serbian Duke of World War I, Zivojin Missic.
