Even Ilazi, like Adam and Hamez Jashar earlier, had identical thoughts about the need for the start of armed war, when it was being seen the beginning that Yugoslavia would be dissolved and when its destruction had already begun with Slovenia's division and the beginning of war in Croatia and later Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ilaz Kodra maintained illegal contacts with Commander Adem Jashari and members of Drenica's first relief core.

In the period before the start of the open war against the invading Serb forces, Ilaz Kodra took an active part in strengthening the KLA's combat units in mobilising volunteers.
He also took part in the famous battle of Rezalla, the battle that took place on November 26, 1997.
