War in Ukraine, LDK seeks emergency assembly of Parliamentary Groups

The LDK has already submitted to the Kosovo Assembly's chairmanship proposal for a parliamentary discussion, where the main emphasis is placed on security topics, Russian sanction, as well as Kosovo's membership in NATO and the EU.

The Democratic League of Kosovo has published seven points of their proposal, where it has also called for their approval.

“Nated by the new global uncertainty situation created by Russia's unprecedented combat intervention in Ukraine, the Democratic League of Kosovo, has surrendered today to the head of the Kosovo Republic of Kosovo Assembly, the draft resolution for discussion with other parliamentary groups, over Russia's condemnation of aggression against Ukraine and the risk of global security, as well as in co-ordination with Western allies for imposing sanctions on Russia and for Kosovo's NATO and EU membership application.

The LDK seeks the urgent meeting of the Parliamentary Groups, with the aim of taking the necessary steps in the short-term; and the adoption of the resolution this Thursday, with the proposed provisions as follows:

1. The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo condemns the Russian Federation's unprecedented act of military intervention towards Ukraine, this unprotested and contrary to all international conventions guaranteeing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of independent states.
2. The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo ranks alongside Western allies in support of Ukraine and its people.
3. The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo urges the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to take the necessary political and constitutional actions for implementing similar sanctions on the Russian Federation, as the Western Allied states have acted and to co-ordinate with them in all other actions in this direction, including taking on the obligation of eventual refugee housing and contributing to humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine.
4. The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo requires the Government of the Republic of Kosovo immediately to take all necessary actions to hand over the membership requirement of the Republic of Kosovo to NATO and the EU.
5. The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo called on NATO and the EU to consider the request for membership of the Republic of Kosovo.
6. The Kosovo Republic Assembly called on EU countries, which have not yet recognised the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, to undertake this political act in the function of peace and stability in the region and the EU as soon as possible.
7. The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo asks the Government of the Republic of Kosovo that, in consultation with the NATO mission in Kosovo, review and cut the initial deadlines in the 10-year plan of 2018 for advancing KSF into the regular army, including providing the financial support needed for this purpose”, is said in its Facebook account. / PERISCOP
