Finance Minister Iron Murati has announced that the Social Economic Council has not approved the minimum wage of 264 euros since unions have not supported this proposal, writes Periscope newspaper.
Minister Murati has called this union decision meaningless.
He has said that with this decision they only continue the same minimum private sector wage.
Here you have his full status:
“We just completed the meeting of the Social Economic Council, where the agenda point was to approve the proposal for the minimum wage.
The account under the administrative directive that was introduced before the ECS was 240.2 euros/month-long.
However, we as a government proposed that the minimum wage be 264 euros/month, or 1.5 euros per hour, which is in line with our promises of minimum wage and for its tax release.
However, the proposal did not get the necessary votes because union representatives did not support it.
Union opposition makes no sense and cannot be explained since none of the workers they represent are affected by minimum wages, because their salaries are apparent above the minimum wage level.
All that is accomplished with this non-vote is that private sector workers will continue to have the minimum wage of 170 euros”, Murati wrote in his Facebook account.
Otherwise, the Kosovo government is continuing a long clash with trade unions, which are seeking improved working conditions, including wages. / PERISCOP
