Already, social networking has begun to spread a video from the beginning of the present Ukrainian president's comic career, performed in the early 2000s. In one show, he joked about Vladimir Putin, while the Russian president was sitting right in front of him.

As the public responded to the joke with enthusiastic laughter and applause, Putin did not join his applause and only laughed sour. At the time, Putin was in his first term at Russia's helm.
Zelensky also linked the letters to the then conducted census, the first since the fall of the USSR. According to the census, Russia has experienced a major population decline, so Zelensky suggested Putin would be happier with the result if he counted the remaining Russians nine times.
