The QUINT states and the EU have called on Kosovo and Serbia to refrain from any rhetoric or action that could increase tensions. In a statement, they have voiced concerns about the risk of escalation of the situation in Kosovo with the launch of protests warned in the north.
Declaration:
Chiefs of the Mission of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union take into account the demonstrations planned today and express concern about the risk of escalation or violence. Citizens have the right to a peaceful gathering as well as the responsibility to ensure that such gatherings are peaceful and do not become violent. Among our common democratic values are the right to peaceful gatherings and to listen to our voice, rights which law enforcement is responsible for protecting. Order forces have the obligation to maintain public order and must do so without violating democratic principles of free speech and assembly. Quint and the EU also repeat their calls to Kosovo and Serbia to act with restraint and refrain from any rhetoric or action that could increase tensions.
