Since Russia began its invasion in Ukraine on February 24th, there have been widespread reports that new recruits were involved in the military operation against its neighbour.
Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that Putin had instructed prior to the start of Moscow's military operation in Ukraine that recruits of “were partially ruled out”, but that he received reports of their presence in armed units operating on the ground, the Kremlin-controlled agency TASS reported.
Putin ordered the Office of the Chief Military Prosecutor of “to legally upgrade and assess actions and punish officials responsible for failing to comply with this order”, Peskov added.
Meanwhile, Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konasenkov said some recruits had been captured by Ukrainian forces.
“at the same time, one of the substandards performing logistical support tasks was attacked by a group of national battalion sabotages. A number of military members, including recruits, were detained”, he was quoted as saying.
“Currently, comprehensive measures are under way to prevent recruits from being sent to combat zones and the release of soldiers seized”, he added.
