This response by US authorities came despite the criticism that Quint countries ( The US, Great Britain, Italy, France and Germany) have addressed the Government of Kosovo after failing to hold Serbia's parliamentary and presidential elections in Kosovo, scheduled for April 3rd.
In the response of the Quint countries, on March 23rd, the “major commitment to the Kosovo Government's decision, saying its behaviour “is not in line with our values and principles and will undermine its European aspirations”.
US continues “to help Kosovo”
But the US commitment to advancing common priorities, mentioned in the response of a UN spokesman, means that the US “will help Kosovo develop responsible, effective governance, build a stable, dynamic economy and achieve better relations with its neighbours, while it takes its place alongside them in Europe and Euro-Atlantic institutions”.
“This final and important priority- full integration into European and Euro-Atlantic institutions is a common priority declared by governments, Kosovo and Serbia”.
The United States continues to believe that the best way for both countries to achieve this is through the active and flexible engagement of Kosovo and Serbia in the EU facilitated dialogue, resulting in an inclusive agreement on normalised relations focused on mutual recognition”, a spokesman for the American State Department said in response.
“Relations exceeding a government position”
Free Europe Radio has been addressed to the Government of Kosovo, with the question of whether there has been any difference in the reports between Kosovo and the United States of America, following Quinn's critical response to the failure of Serbian elections.
Kosovo Government spokesman Progress Kryeziu, in a written response to Radio Free Europe, has stressed that the Kosovo government continues to cultivate bilaterally and traditionally good and friendly relations with the US”.
He has stressed that co-operation between the two countries is constructive and that the Government of Kosovo is in regular and continuous communication with President Joe Biden's administration, as well as with representatives of the US state in Kosovo.
“The US is our strategic and historical ally, to whom we have witnessed reliable and stable partnerships recently in the housing case of more than 1,400 Afghan refugees. Relations between our two countries are so specific and deep that they exceed a position or other government”, Kryeziu stressed.
