Macron and Scholz called on Putin for “to move towards a diplomatic solution to the” conflict, according to German government spokesman Stephen Hebestreet.
He said the conversation was part of continued international efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The two sides agreed not to disclose further details of the talks, he added.
Scholz spoke with Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky before calling with Putin for his “assessment of the current situation” and “they agreed to stay in close contact”, according to the spokesman.
