Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has declared that high-level meetings between Kosovo and Serbia following Russian aggression in Ukraine have become very difficult.
I believe the situation is harder than it used to be. It depends on when we receive invitations from Brussels, but after the Russian invasion in Ukraine, while we imposed sanctions and expressed readiness for the admission of 20 journalists and 5 thousand refugees, as Serbia emerged in front of the Russian Federation meetings are in a much more difficult situation than in last year [...] In this situation where they do not have the courage to distance themselves from the Russian federation and join sanctions, even our meetings have become very difficult”, he said.
Regarding whether they have made any decisions regarding holding Serbia's elections or not, Kurti said that along with the QUINT ambassadors, they are trying to find a solution that does not violate Kosovo's rights but also does not violate Kosovo's citizenship and constitutionality.
“Consistent on one side should not allow Serbs in Kosovo to have the right to vote, but on the other, constitutionality and the law in Kosovo owe us the basis of any choice they will get in the future. We are in talks with QUINT ambassadors in order to see what solution we can find”, he said.
