Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said that Kosovo is not afraid of what is happening in Ukraine, but is being vigilant, taking into account as it has said, the fact that Serbia has over 40 military bases near the border with Kosovo.
In an interview Thursday for Swiss television, Blick, Kurti has said that despite this, Kosovo has on its NATO and EU territory, which offer security to its citizens.
We are not afraid, but we are very vigilant. Serbia has more than 40 military bases on the border with Kosovo. But we have NATO in the country, even if we are not members of it, and we have the EU. With our Western partners, we look to the future with hope”, Kurt said.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin may target any other country except Russia, in order to force negotiations with American President Joe Biden, and that this country may be the Balkans since it is closer to the West.
Serbia and Russia have very close ties. In 2012, two joint military activities took place between the two countries. Last year there were a hundred. Serbia has not yet condemned the annexing of Crime or the invasion of Ukraine. Adding to this is the fact that despotic President Putin could take the war to another country to force negotiations with President Beden. The Balkans, even closer to the West, could be its target”, Kurti has declared.
He has also spoken in this interview about Kosovo's goal of becoming part of NATO and the EU, adding that he is struggling hard to do so.
To enter the EU, a country must have a functional democracy, free media and without corruption. However, Kosovo is not really a model in this direction. Since our government took office a year ago, we've been really modeled. We've dismantled 60 criminal organizations. We arrested 230 corrupt officials. We fought organized crime. The work and justice that works are the arguments that allowed us to win the elections a year ago. Since then, we have created 24,000 new jobs. We do our best to improve our” image, Kurt said.
He has also declared that they are in contact with the five EU nations that have not yet recognised Kosovo, adding that major steps are being taken to change that. /Time/
