The one that started as a manifestation of truckers early in the week, in terms of rising fuel prices, has now expanded into a massive revolt supported by opposition parties. Inflation has reached the 7% level, highest in more than 3 decades. The price of energy has affected new records and sparked panic among citizens, who have flooded at gas stations.
Prices were growing rapidly even prewar in Ukraine, but the situation there has added pressure: “is a serious issue, as many people have to drive every day to get to work. The fuel is increasingly expensive, but our salaries remain the same, even lower, due to inflation”.
On Friday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met with leaders of Italy, Portugal and Greece to promote a joint response to the energy crisis and a summit over the issue at the end of the month. Sanchez proposed a change of the current system and suggested a break between natural gas costs and the price of energy in energy markets. / A2 CNN
